Hello! My name is Earl but my Dad calls me 'Early dog' . I am a quite large German Shepherd but a big softy as well. I was born in Leamington Spa on 6 June 1995. I came to Nottingham in 1996 still in my youth, 17 months old, to meet my new Dad who was in need of a Guide Dog because his last one, Jasper, had been a bad lad and had to be retired. It was hard work learning to be a Guide Dog at the same time as getting to know my new Dad and guide him around somewhere I was not familiar with. Not only that but I had a bit of a sensitive tummy as well. But being the dog I am, I coped with it all in my stride.

As time went by I got to know my way around Nottingham and enjoyed life with my Dad. I like going for walks to Bulwell because we go by the river Lean and I can go for a ‘free run’ and look for other dogs to play with. I'm not really a swimmer but I will sometimes go for a bit of a paddle. My Dad has now got into computers and we go to NewLINK-Nottingham on Fridays where everyone makes a big fuss of me and I sometimes get a little treat from Jacki in the way of a ‘Doggie chew’. I have got my own water bowl but I don't get common tap water, Jacki gives me nice bottled water from the fridge which is lovely and cold. Kevin, who is the tutor, picks us up in the morning and I sit in the front of his car like Royalty. I can hear his car before it comes around the corner and I get excited so my Dad knows that Kevin is on his way.

We don‘t live very far from the country side and in the summer my Dad will take me for a long walk through the fields to Kimberley. It takes us about two hours to get there and we have to cross the M1 motorway bridge on the way. It is very noisy at that point but it doesn't bother me because I‘m quite brave. Sometimes we meet other dogs on the way and I have just got to say hello to them. Unfortunately it isn't possible to play with them because some of the fields have got livestock in them so I have to stay on the lead.

There is a very nice pub in Kimberley where we stop for a drink before setting off for the return walk. It has got a very nice garden where I can relax and watch the World go by. Well the summer is hopefully on its way and I am looking forward to going out to visit the country side again.
